Adsense Alternatives: Using Your Own Promoted Ads

Adsense Alternatives: Using Your Own Promoted Ads

Wait...what? Am I really saying you could use your own ads? If so what kind of ads should you/could you use? In this post, I will be talking about ways to make and earn from your own ads! Please note, this is not about affiliate networks like Amazon or The eBay Partner Network, it's about ads for your own products or a privately sponsored ad.

There are probably 2 main ways to go about this method. The first is to use the ad spaces to sell your own merchandise, books or services! While you can also use ad spaces to promote goods on a marketplace (like Amazon) it is best to have them pointing to a buying page on your own site. This method will be better for sales and better for SEO because it will improve on-site time. All you need to do is make the banners and ad sizes then point them to your own selling page!

The other method is a little tricker, its about gaining privately sponsored ads. This is best done with highly localised blogs. So if you have a blog based around local events, life or general reviews around a certain location in the world (London, New York, Paris or just your local town) you can approach local businesses to advertise on your site! While this method obviously takes a lot of time and effort the earnings from it can be significantly higher than any ad CPT (Cost Per Thousand) from Adsense. This can also result in long-term sponsorship and all you need is a few good local businesses to earn a good income displaying your own ads! While it might sound crazy to do so it can be the perfect answer to low-Adsense earnings for certain blogs.

The first and best thing is the level of control you get. No ads that go against your beliefs, no ads that you might disagree with, it means you control what the ads are for and what they say. But it can also be about the consistent earnings. Get a good deal with local business and you can sign them up for a whole year for a few hundred every month! All you need is a few good contracts and you can blog all you want with a fairly steady income!

Things I Hate about Using Your Own Promoted Ads...

The main thing I hat about this method is the extra work. Visiting or calling local firms takes time and effort, but as I have explained it can be worth it. But its also the rejection that will happen in 95% of the time because a lot of business (big and small) often don't understand the benefits from advertising on a localised blog. But stick with it and it can work, provided you can justify them spending that amount with high levels of local engagement.

This is not a method I would suggest anyone tries, but on the flip-side of that, it is a method I know has worked for a lot of people! In fact, some people make a very nice living from it! But for me personally its too much work to make it worthwhile. But hey! If you do have a localised blog or have loads of your own products to sell, why not give it a go! If you're earning tuppence from Adsense it can't hurt but try.
